They push it as hard as they can, push the playerbase as far as they can, and hope that they push just the right amount without it blowing up in their faces.īlowups like what happened with Battlefront II are the rare exception where they miscalculated and pushed too hard, too soon. They've already accounted for the variables. They already know that what they're doing gets them the most money. Because the average player apparently thinks they understand more about monetization, statistics, and analysis than paid actuaries. Replace X with any number of suggestions, like lowering the price of cosmetics, changing the way the system works, etc. It surprises me that I still see people say "they would make more money if X". It's that simple if it didn't work (and work very well) they wouldn't do it. It wouldn't have spread like wildfire throughout gaming. If not, we wouldn't have the monetization system that we have. (by they, I mean the big publishers like EA, Activision, etc.) and determined that the few whales who spend thousands make up for the protestors ten fold. They already did the statistical analysis on a decade of gathered player metrics, used focus groups, etc. It's not like they are naive, or that they think "Boy, the players will love this!" They know they're pushing a shit sandwich and they know that X% of players will be very upset. Just to add: We, the disgruntled, have already been taken into account as lost sales during the monetization planning in the board rooms long before the game shipped. Let them have their holiday and come back to this hell hole is good shape. That doesn't sound like the ship is sailing smoothly. Forge and co-op are delayed for a long time. I'm sure things have been rough at 343, or else the game would be in a better state right now. Many have probably known about the shitty stuff in this game for a while but haven't been able to do anything about it.
They just want to makes games and earn a living. When they "fix" it they look like they're listening to feedback and helping the community. What they really want is a shitty feature that's not as bad.
We've seen it before (Apex Legends comes to mind) where they put in a really shit feature that they know is going to get a load of backlash but they never intend to actually implement. OP is right on the nose that everything is intentional. Someone in a suit getting paid big bucks is making decisions to suck as much money out of the players. I've seen developers getting burnt out because they can't make the games they want to make (BioWare is a big example). Why are people so mad that other gamers aren’t happy with a product we know can be amazing? It’s sad to be completely honest.ĮDIT AGAIN. Stop justifying shady business practices.ĮDIT: It literally blows my mind the lengths some of you will justify massive corporations nickel and dime-ing you for everything they can. I will gladly buy a battle pass every season if it’s worth it. But there are massive problems that we cannot just accept. I have played Halo my whole life like a lot of you. They will make changes and we will celebrate them. They knew exactly what was going to happen. This is Microsoft’s literal flagship franchise. This allows them to become heroes to the community for fixing their own made issues which they likely already knew they would be making edits down the road. They will listen to the outcry and give us the “we hear you” “we made a bad judgement call” “changes are coming” Collect data on what and how many people will accept/buy stuff. Make stuff as bad as possible for maximum profit. They know they can never make it worse than what they start out with in the store because that would obviously be egregious.Īim high. There are people who implement this stuff knowing they need to aim high from the jump to see what they can get away with. 343 is a large company that is backed by a way larger company in Microsoft.
All specifically executed and orchestrated according to plan.
